UNDP Romania in partnership with the Center for Institutional Analysis and Development (CADI - Eleutheria), Government of Romania – Department for Interethnic Relations (DRI) and Roma Civic Alliance for Romania (ACRR) organized in Calarasi, between 19-21 November 2012, the regional social economy seminar focused on building entrepreneurial skills in social economy. The three day seminar was designed to provide basic theoretical concepts of social entrepreneurship and the role of public authorities in the development of social economy models for Roma communities. The targeted participants were social inclusion experts from local authorities and civil society, who were taught about the benefits and challenges of developing and implementing a social business plan and were familiarised with the growing role of social economy in the inclusion of Roma comunities.

Following the seminar, 25 participants became Certified Professionals in social economy entrepreneurship, and were encouraged to help increase the level of social inclusion of Roma communities in the South region of Romania.

“Building entrepreneurial skills in social economy” is the second in a series of six seminars dedicated to strengthening the role of local authorities and civil society in developing socio-economic models for Roma communities, noting their diversity in terms of culture, social empowerment, education and income generation. The first seminar took place in Cluj, in October 2011. The following seminars will be held in Bacau (March 2013), Targu-Mures (May 2013), Drobeta Turnu Severin (July 2013) and Oradea (September 2013).
